Mangaluru: It is a city called as port city, city which is known for varieties of seafood and very much known for its unique culture, but does the city have retained the same name and fame? It is the only question which is asked by mist of the Mangalureans. In a survey done by, MegaMediaNews unveiled the second face of this beautiful city. Now the city might be called as a city of pick pocketers, city of ganja peddlers and a city of illegal prostitution business.

The time might be 9 pm to 9.30 pm a man named Shreedhar was walking on the road, suddenly some miscreants attacked him by stabbing on his neck. The incident took place near Hampankatta. The victim is a coolie worker at State Bank. He had no enemies or any enmity with anyone, but still he was stabbed by someone for no reason. Fortunately he managed to survive with a wound on his neck. The weapon cut his throat and about to take his life, but because of Shreedhar’s resistance they left him on the road.

Was it a attempt of murder, no says Shreedhar. A gang which is executing its operations near Hampankatta, State bank and other places during night time choose the lonely, aged or handicapped persons as their prey. Most of the time, they loot money from their prey. Shreedhar had no money with him, so the attackers left him high and dry on the road. Because of fear of getting attacked by the same people again, he didn’t file any complaint regarding the incident.

The above case is just an example of pick pocketing. There are many victims of this who are afraid of the gang and never register their complaint in the station. The gang has taken it as granted and they are working fearlessly. People are afraid of walking freely on the road during night. The gang attacks with deadly weapons like knife and machetes. Local people are alleging that, those who migrate from other place to Mangaluru for the purpose of work are behind this. For asking why the victims do not register any complaint, they said that what if they targeted us again.

When it comes to the ganja it has been a casual crime here in Mangaluru. Some of the colleges are well known for drug peddling. There will be at least one place in every college or nearby every college where the ganja is being sold to the students and young budding generation. State Bank is the hide out for the ganja smokers and peddlers. The place where people from various places come to catch the busses to return to their home back, same place is also used for the illegal ganja peddling also.

And the major curse of the city is illegal prostitution. The shocking thing behind this is the sex workers involved the prostitution is transgenders. The local people allege that the transgenders forcefully involve the Passerby people for the sex and they also loot money from the victims. Here the victims are afraid of their prestige and status.

Sources have said that during the night time after 8 o’clock at State Bank Maidan road tempo parking area, it becomes almost impossible to walk on the road. The transgenders loot everything that a passerby has. Then it becomes a matter of prestige and none of the victims would like to reveal it with anyone. When the people don’t share it with their aides then expecting a police complaint from them becomes highly difficult.

It is not a problem which occurred recently. These businesses are running from past so many years and no action taken against these things because no complaint has been registered yet. The city people have got used to such incidents and never report about all these things.

The local people are urging the local governing bodies to fix the street light to the State Bank Maidan road area, so that the miscreants should not dare to repeat their illegal business again. The city beat police also should also burst these hideouts.
