Bangalore: Over 40 years ago, the previous literacy session was held in this capital city of Karnataka. It has rubbed into organizers in providing food to innumerous delegates in 2011 today, in view of a rush of visitors to the venue for food (for the body and mind). A lot of noise has been created by disgruntled delegates and visitors at the sprawling National High School grounds in the absence of water and food to their bodies, when the elected President, 97 year old G.Venkatasubbaiah was delivering his Presidential address on Kannada in polished Kannada.
He stressed on the importance of using Kannada in administration and daily activities, but the delegates had gone hungry in the body at noon today. There was a large and long colourful procession before the proceedings.
GV is known for his 10 volumes of Kannada to Kannada dictionary besides other lexicon and literary works. There are well known writers and poets attending this massive conference today. Delivering his address in less than one hour amidst noises and voices hungry persons attending the speech show, G.Venkatasubbaiah referred to the havoc created by politicians by their unbridled behaviour in what is controlled public life and where punishment follows crimes and criminals, with politicians escaping responsibilities under allegations and counter –charges.
GV accused MLAs of absurd conduct and abusive language (even in Kannada). Such incapable and inefficient persons should never have been elected to the Lower House, he declared. He reminded listeners that Karnataka earned a bad name through politicians as a haven of corrupt activities, never knowing what is proper and decent. The Kannada state may be IT capital, but it is also the capital 9city) for corruption, as cancer disease. He prayed to Bhuvaneshwari to grant good thoughts to our warring politicians, and make them serve Kannada better.
