Mangalore : Noted scholar Prof. BA Viveka Rai was conferred the Muliya Timmappaiah Award at a function held at St Aloysius College in Mangalore on January 13, Sunday under the aegis of Muliya Thimmappayya Shatamanothsava Samithi, Mangalore, Muliya Thimmappayya Smaaraka Trust, Muliya and Department of Kannada, St Aloysius College.
Speaking after receiving the Award, Prof Viveka Rai urged Kannada writers and scholars to learn many languages and added learning more languages would also contribute to research. He also said the late Manjeshwar Govind Pai had mastered as many as 27 languages. On Muliya Timmappaiah, Prof. Rai said Timmappaiah was instrumental in creating newer literary perspectives with Kannada identity.
Fr Swebert D’Silva, Principal of St Aloysius College, Dr. Chinnappa Gowda, Professor, Department of Kannada, Mangalore University, Erya Laxminarayana Alva, senior writer were among others present on the occasion.
