Mangalore: About 600 residents of Bikarnakatta took out a procession from Nanthoor to Infant Jesus Church-arch, to protest against poor road and haphazard execution of public works in the locality for months. The protest was made on Thursday (today) morning on Highway no.13.
The protest march began at 10am but without any political leaders in sight at Nanthoor. The road work was supposed to end in December 2010, but even after two months it is not completed, with clouds of dust all over the area. The people moving on this road, as also vehicles, face danger to their lives. Shops and complexes in the area remained closed on the day.
Speakers on the occasion told the press that drainage system was not working and there could be man-made flooding if it is rained there.
An appeal had been submitted to DK-DC on Jan.31, 2011. He had assured that the roads would be ready in 10 days. The protesters are now driven to surround NHAI office in Valencia, if the road work is not completed by Feb. end this year.
