Mangalore: Quit India Day was observed by the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation at Tagore Park on August 9, Thursday under the auspices of the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation. This is the 70th anniversary of Quit India movement. Ajith Kumar Hegde S, Commissioner of Mangalore Urban Development Authority, inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national tri-colour.
In his address, he said the Quit India Movement gave a major turn to India’s freedom struggle.
Ranganath C Kini, Corporator, also spoke as a chief guest. A Sadananda Shetty, President of the Foundation, presided over the function and exhorted the students and youth to follow the noble ideals of freedom fighters.
Dr. N. Ismail, Foundation Secretary. Prabhakar Shriyan, Joint Secretary, P Sadananda, Treasurer and others were present. Patriotic song singing and elocution competitions were conducted for students of various schools.
