Mangalore: Speaking on the workshop held on 12th June 2013 at Townhal on World Child labour eradication programme, Choaudapurkar Arun, District session Judge and of District Legal aid cell called for the speedy rehabilitation of rescued child labourers so that they won’t revert to the labour Market. He stressed the need of strict laws to implement child labour eradication programme.
Outlining the main reason for this menace he opined that poverty, illiteracy and non family planning (Large members in the family) is the main reason for the child labour.
Improving the standard of living of extremely poor families will help to mitigate this scourge.
As part of this programme, a procession was held by college students beginning from Jyoti Circle to Town hall.
The Function was inaugurated by Dr. K.N Jayapraksh, Chief Commissioner of Jilla Panchayat. The Oath taking ceremony was held by students to stop child labour.
Speaking on the occation Dr. Vijayaprakash said that South Kanara is having Lowest Number of child labourers. The ultimate goal of making South Kanara child labour free district is real possibility in near future.
Smt. Asha Nayak, President, Dist. Child welfare committee urged the public to inform `child line’ if any one come across chid laboures.
DG Nagesh chief officer Mangalore district Labour cell gave the state vice and nation vice statistics of child labour. Ku Geetha who secured 376 Marks in SSLC exams after being rescued by child welfare association shared her experiences with the audience.
Senior civil judge J.N Subrahmany, Lawyers Association President Ashok Ariga, Mangalore City Corporation Dy. Commissioner Shreekanth Rao, Asst. Director Education Dept. Moses Jayashekar, Dy. Director Child welfare Smt Shaknthala, Dist. Social welfare officer Arun Putardo, Najappa Asst. Director Factories and Boilers were also present.
