Mangalore : The South Canara District Central Co-operative Bank has said that it strongly opposed the latest order from NABARD which gives only the district banks the power to issue loans and not to agricultural co-operative societies in villages.
Speaking to reporters, SCDCC Bank Chairman MN Rajendra Kumar said the new order would convert the co-operative societies into mere commission agents and said this was not possible,
He said a meeting has been arranged in Bangalore on August 16 to discuss the issue. He described the circular as impractical and urged all elected representatives t o oppose the same and also said the state government has been requested to ensure steps to see that the rule is not brought into force in the state.
