Mangalore: An aged woman named Gangamma approached Deputy Commissioner N Prakash through a social worker named Suresh Shetty on January 8. Tuesday, seeking shelter. She said she hailed from Puttur and had no one to take care of after her husband who worked in a hotel passed away.
She also informed she stayed in a relative’s house at Bangalore for the past 35 years, but has no place to stay after her relative and his son passed away. Though she tried to find a place in an orphanage at several places, it was futile. She says she recently boarded a bus to Mangalore from Bangalore and ever since she landed at the KSRTC bus stand at Bejai, made it a place of stay for four days. She approached several old age homes, which she says refused to admit her.
The DC who heard the appeal of the woman made arrangements for her stay at the night shelter for destitutes in Mangalore. He also promised to get her admitted to some old age home at the earliest.
