Mangaluru: Shilpa Cutinha and Robin John Paul Sequeira were adjudged the best Konkani female and male singers respectively at the 9th global Konkani music awards instituted by Mandd Sobhann.
In the ceremony that singer and actror Vasundhara Das graced, Shipla picked up the award for her song ‘Tujya Dollyantuli’ from the album O…La…Re… and Robin for the song ‘Tum Zay Mhaka’ also from the same album.
Nithin Koottungal from Kochi was adjudged the best music composer for the song Tum Geloy Sanddun from O…La…Re… Llyod Austin Rego from Taccode was adjudged the best lyricist for ‘Yo Vegim’ from the album Mho’jya Moga and Roshan D’Souza the best music arranger for ‘Tum Zay Mhaka’ from O…La…Re…. Antony Stephen Cutinha of Sennon Productions bagged the best music album award for O…La…Re… Each award carried Rs 25,000, a citation.
Vasundhara said she witnessed joy and beauty of Konkani music in the ceremony. On this occasion, the 3rd global Konkani music lifetime achievement award was conferred on Henry D’Souza, Mumbai, for his contribution to Konkani music.
The award comprised of 1 lakh in cash and a citation. Henry thanked Mandd Sobhann for the honour. Sumell presented a medley of five popular songs of Henry on the occasion.
Eric Ozario, gurkaar, Mandd Sobhann, announced that global Konkani cine awards will henceforth be presented once in two years from next year. He also announced that henceforth, the global Konkani music awards will also be presented every alternate year.
Louis J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, Roy Castelino, pirjent, Kalaangann, Kishore Fernandez, secretary, Mandd Sobhann, were present. Arun Raj Rodrigues and Amora Monteiro compered the programme.
