Mangaluru : Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Sunday squarely blamed the State government for not writing to the Centre to review the ban on Kambala (buffalo race).
Based on Supreme Court order, the district administrations of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada have banned the rural sport practised in these districts.
Gowda was speaking to reporters after accepting a memorandum from district Kambala committee. The State government should have urged the Centre to vacate the ban imposed on this folk sport. The State has been giving financial support to Kambala and the State Cabinet should have taken a decision to continue with the sport, he added.
