Mangalore: DK Zilla Panchayat, Mangalore Public Instruction Department, DK Teachers Day Celebration Committee and Mangalore Block Teachers Day Celebration Committee jointly organised Teachers Day and Felicitation programme on September 5, Sunday.
Speaking after inaugurating the occasion, B Nagaraj Shetty, Chairman, Coastal Development Authority, said that the responsible teachers must follow the foot step of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India who is been the role model for the teachers.
Renowned journalist and kannada lecturer Narendra Rai Derla, delivered the key note address on the occasion.
Teachers must always preach the religion of humanity and work against casteism and communalism, but work to build a better and peaceful society, He said.
MLA N Yogish Bhat, MLA, in his presidential address urged the teachers to give importance to quality based education and encourage students to expose their hidden talents.
Many district award winning teachers including seven from primary schools and five from High Schools of the district were honoured on the occasion. 13 teachers of the district who retired between November 2009 and July 2010 were also felicitated.
MLA UT Khader, Harikrishna Punarooru, former President, Kannada Sahithya Parishath, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President, DK district Kannada Sahithya Parishath, Dayavathi were present.
