New Delhi: An amount of Rs. 28.50 lakhs purported to have been paid by international Tennis player of India and Davis cup star Mahesh Bhoopathy to his aged father C.G Krishna Bhoopathy for training him (Mahesh) in Tennis early in his life and later by giving tips on play, attracts tax, it is confirmed by Supreme Court on Monday, when it rejected his appeal for tax concessions on the gift payment made within the family.
The Karnataka High Court had refused to grant tax concessions on training allowances made to C.G.K Bhoopathy by his son Mahesh, who is a professional Tennis player and earning in Lakhs. The Supreme Court in an appeal from Mahesh, took note of the training lessons provided to him by his father, but refused to provide tax concessions on the earnings of his father C.G.K Bhoopathy, who is a yesteryear club player in Tennis.
