Mangalore : The new Milagres College, teaching B,Com and B.B. M. degree classes, was inaugurated this morning (July 7, Wednesday) at the Milagres Church auditorium Hall.
Prof. Shiva Shankar Murthy, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore (Konaje) University lighted the traditional lamp to inaugurate the new set of classes. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Murthy stated that the number of Universities in India are too few, as compared to a new nation in America (USA). The population (1.2 billion) is far more and we need more universities in every state, he pointed out.
14 colleges have been started this year (2010) and Milagres is one of them. To raise the standards of education, a partnership of public and private enterprises is the need of the hour, the V.C. felt.
Registrar Chinappa Gowda of MU stated that an educational revolution is due in the coming near future. For an institution to raise itself to great heights, discipline and intensity are needed. The two qualities are found in Christian service Institutions, Colleges and hospitals. In earlier days, education and healthcare were matters of missionary zeal, but today commerce has ruined them. The institution is larger than the individual, this belief is helpful while working in educational institutions, only then a very good institution would take shape inside the four walls. The MU registrar opined.
Rev. Fr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, was the chief guest on the occasion. He told the gathering that wherever churches have been raised, there people have become literates, as that was the common aim. He felt that people needed more schools than ever now.
Rev. Ashton D’Souza, Rev. Lawrence D’Souza, principal of Milagres College Marcel Monteiro, Alwyn Rosario, Gerald Pinto, Ms. Elvira Philomena, Anil Rasquinha and Rev. Walter D’Mello were present.
Rev. Walter D’ Mello welcomed the elderly gathering, while Prof. Lawrence D’ Costa proposed a Vote of thanks. Trishma Pinto compered the event.
