Chennai : The Madras High Court of TamilNadu may decide about admitting the review petitions filed by 3 Tamil convicts(2 of LTTE) on the death raw due to be hanged on Sept.9 in Vellore.
The men are in prison for 2 decades now, after Rajiv Gandhi was killed in May 1991. Their mercy petitions were rejected by President Prathibha Patil recently (Aug.11). The review petitions are coming up today (Aug.30).
The convicts are on record saying that the delay of 11 years to dispose of their mercy petitions was “illegal and unconstitutional”. The DMK in the opposition has attacked the ruling AIA-DMK recently for making matters worse, by refusing to look in to the review petitions this week.
Thus, the ensuring execution of the 3 conspirators in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case, has became a political plaything and an explosive issue. The convicts wanted the death sentences to be commuted to life-term imprisonment.
Priyanka has pardoned the wife of one of the culprits (Murugan-Nalini) while their 20 year old daughter Harithra in London nwow asks for an amnesty for Murugan.
