Mangalore : The Dakshina Kannada District Amateur Wrestling Association in association with Karnataka State Wrestling Association will organize three day open wrestling competition at Nehru Maidan from Jan 27 to Jan 29.
Speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Kudla on Jan 23, Monday A Sadananda Shetty of the association said that the association will organize two days ‘Karnataka Kesari’, Karnataka Kumar’ and ‘Karnataka Kishore’ and other competition according to the body weight and open wrestling for women will be held.
He also said that on Jan 27, the sports torch will be brought in procession from Pandeshwara Mahalingeshwara Temple to Nehru Maidan at 8.30 am. The state level wrestling competition will be held from 9 am. The inaugural ceremony of the event will be held at 6 pm.
On Jan 28, the event will conclude with the award giving ceremony for the winners at 6pm. On Jan 29, the south zonal wrestling competition will commence at 9 am and valedictory ceremony will be held at 6 pm. The weight measurement for the participants will be held at Srinivas Mallya Indoor Stadium.
The men’s competition will be in the weight category of 50, 55, 60, 66, 74, 84 and 84 to 100kg in eight different categories. Women’s will be in 44, 48, 51, 55, 59, 63, 67, 72 kg. Around 250 participants are expected to participate from 6 states.
Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, Sukpal Salian, Sandeep S Rao, Rohidas Bangera and others were present.
