T’Puram (Kerala): In the elections held on Oct 23 & 25 in 2 phases of 7 districts each for Local Bodies and Panchayats, the Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF) has turned the tables on ruling Leftist LDF, as per results published today.
The counting is on in 14 districts, for votes polled upto 70% recently to the local self governing bodies. UDF is leading in 13 of the 14 districts polls at 3 P.M on Wednesday. The LDF won in 7 municipalities, but UDF captured Kochi and Thrissur city corporations, besides 16 of the 23 municipalities.
At the grass-root (lower) levels of GP there is a neck-to-neck race between the only 2 Fronts in consideration. UDF got 27 GPs and LDF 24 out of 54. In Block panchayats, UDF obtained majority in 10, while LDF won 9. Final picture is awaited.
