Udupi: Supporting the PM’s decision on demonetization and making his vision of a cashless, technologically-advanced India come true, Udupi City buses have newly implemented the cash card system.
The service and express buses will go the cashless way by introducing cash cards on travels in the city. The cards come with various facilities to its users. The cash card benefits can be availed in any of the Canara Combined Transport Services. At first, the card needs to be charged with a particular amount and will have its validity for a year.
If the card is recharged for Rs 1,000, the traveler can avail service of Rs 1,100 in buses as the top-up gives a 10% bonus. If lost, the card can be blocked like an ATM.
The radio frequency identification technology (RFID) was implemented in 2008 which is limited to regular commuters. The RFID supports commuter travelling only to a particular distance with recharge.
During the journey, commuters have to submit the card to the conductor who places the card in front of the machine and the amount will be deducted and the ticket issued. The commuter will be allowed to travel only once a day.
