Mangalore : The much awaited elections to the local administrative bodies will be held on March 7. Apart from Mangalore city Corporation, 4 TMCs, 2 Town Panchayats are also going to the polls to select candidates for a total of 189 seats. There are a total of 677 candidates in the fray.
A total of 243 candidates are in the fray for the 60 wards in MCC, 77 candidates for the 23 wards in Moodbidri TMC, 27 seats in Ullal TMC, 23 seats in Bantwal TMC, 88 candidates for the 27 seats in Puttur TMC. 38 for the 11 seats in Belthangady Town Panchayat and 55 candidates for the 18 seats in Sullia Town panchayat. Of the total candidates, 55 are independents.
A total of 4,60,381 voters will be exercising their franchise in the district. In Mangalore city corporation limits, there are 1,57,712 male voters and 1,68,413 female voters taking the total electorate to 3,26,125.
In Moodbidri there are 18,946 voters, 38,475 in Ullal, 28,231 in Bantwal, 34,160 in Puttur, 5390 in Belthangady Town Panchayat and 12054 in Sullia Town Panchayat.
Women voters outnumber make voters in DK district. If the number of male voters stand at 225,812, the number of female voters is 2,37,569.
