Mangalore : Tulu Religion Research Centre, Perooru organaised a debate on Kambala at Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore on Saturday.

The debate held under theme of “without faming, need kambala?”

TRRC convenor Perooru Jaru said, in all villages in Tulu Nadu you can find the kambala gaddhe or field; but more than century the village kambala the he buffalo race not performed. Once every year kambala held in Jardhe month of Tulu before seeding for suggi harvest. In Koti Chennaya Tulu ballads also the kambala mentioned before paddy seeding times ploughing. Later the kambala took over by gamblers and rich people for their show, all villages kambala was stopped because the coast went high.

Separate kambala buffalo was severe the common people’s tie with kambala. Today the people cry for kambala, but kambala related to agrarian activities. Without agriculture separate kambala is no use. Today farmers facing several problems; no one can eat other than one the crops. I think to be some three decades after one day will come that one who wants grain and vegetable they must pre paid the amount for the farmer; that day really gain for the farmer. Kambala or ox race anything else cattle festival all over world related with agriculture. Tulu Nadu kambala retain the tradition not just a race, Perooru Jaru said.
