Mangalore : The situation in MCC venue changed when the nomination filed by BJP Candidate Roopa D Bangera was rejected and the luck turned into the hands of Congress candidate Gulzar Banu, which was declared as Mayor of MCC for one year on Mar 7, Wednesday.

The BJP’s only candidate for the Mayor post Roopa D Bangera was rejected by Election officer and Mysore regional commissioner M V Jayanthi, since the delay in the caste certificate submission procedure by her in the nomination.
When Roopa D Bangera asked permission from the officers to allow her advocate to defend her case, the Congress corporators intervened and said that once a decision is made by the election officer cannot be changed.
Later Roopa D Bangera was given ten minutes times to take back her nomination, after which Gulzar Banu was unanimously declared as mayor.
After a deep discussion BJP candidate Amithakala defeated Kumari Appi of Congress and elected as the Deputy Mayor.
