Mangalore : A complaint has been lodged with the Suratkal police by the Managing Director of Chitra Publications which publishes ‘Karavali Ale’ stating that the supporters of former minister Krishna Palemar were responsible for the burning of copies of Karavali Ale at Krishnapura 9th block on April 28, Sunday, and near Suratkal bus stand on April 29, Monday morning.
According to the complaint, the local corporator Tilakraj had led the group which burnt the newspaper copies at Krishnapura. It further alleged that the supporters of Palemar also snatched away newspaper bundles as soon as the car loaded with ‘Karavali Ale’ copies reached Suratkal bus stand on Monday. They later burnt the copies, the complaint said.
The complaint said though the Suratkal inspector Nataraj was asked to ensure protection to newspaper copies sensing danger at Suratkal, no police personnel were present when the vehicle arrived. This encouraged the miscreants to burn the copies, Rohini S, Managing Director of Chitra Publications said.
The complaint has sought initiation of legal action against those responsible for burning the newspaper copies and urged for steps to see that Palemar, Sangh Parivar, and others do not create hurdles in the circulation of the newspaper.
