Mangaluru: Minister of health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao said that soon a decision will be taken to declare the 175-year-old Govt Wenlock District Hospital as a regional hospital. He was speaking after inaugurating the 175th-anniversary celebrations of Wenlock Hospital and Govt Lady Goschen Hospital on Sunday.
“A lot of effort by the doctors and staff over the years has made Wenlock Hospital the best govt hospital in Karnataka. Further, the KMC Hospital’s long-standing association with Wenlock Hospital played a crucial role in its growth over the past 70 years. With great pleasure, I participate in this programme as a health minister. I have no idea when a cabinet reshuffle will take place, but now I am happy to be part of this hospital’s development as health minister,” he said.
The work on a new outpatient block for the hospital, which is being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore, is nearing completion. Meanwhile, people’s representatives and the public have also been demanding that the hospital be declared a regional hospital. The govt will make a decision soon, the minister said, adding that the hospital will see an upgrade of Rs 35 crore through the KMC tie-up.
