Udupi : Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. has appealed to the citizens of the district to celebrate an eco-friendly Gowri-Ganesha festival by installing idols crafted exclusively from natural clay. Addressing a meeting of officials from various departments convened to review law and order and precautionary measures at the District Office Auditorium in Rajatadri, Manipal, on Friday, she stressed the importance of preserving natural water resources during the festive season.
Highlighting that the Gowri-Ganesha festival is scheduled to be celebrated on September 13 and 14 across the district, the Deputy Commissioner pointed out that idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) or coated with toxic chemical paints do not dissolve naturally in water. Such materials severely pollute water bodies and pose a serious threat to aquatic life. She urged citizens and organizers to strictly refrain from using PoP idols and actively cooperate in safeguarding the environment.
