Dharmasthala : Rajya Sabha MP and Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade has expressed deep joy and appreciation over the Karnataka Cabinet’s decision to accord official second language status to the ancient Tulu language. The landmark decision was taken during the state cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru on Friday, presided over by Chief Minister Shri D. K. Shivakumar. On behalf of the people of undivided Dakshina Kannada and the Tulu diaspora spread across the globe, Dr. Heggade extended special congratulations and heartfelt gratitude to the state government.
Highlighting the long-term significance of this development, Dr. Heggade stated that granting state-level official status will strongly aid and accelerate the ongoing efforts to include Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He recalled the historic World Tulu Convention organized at Ujire in 2009, which successfully drew global attention to the richness of Tulu language, land, culture, and heritage. He noted that concepts like ‘Tulu Grama’ showcased during the convention had earned unanimous praise from all quarters.
Expressing immense satisfaction with the state government’s positive response to the decades-long demand of the region, Dr. Heggade conveyed his warm wishes and congratulations on behalf of all Tulu enthusiasts and cultural organizations worldwide for fulfilling this cherished dream of Tulu Nadu.
