Mangaluru : The 9th edition of the highly anticipated Mangaluru Kambala commenced with a grand and traditional opening on Saturday, December 27, at Goldfinch City in Bangra Kulur. This rural sporting extravaganza, which is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Tulu Nadu, was formally inaugurated by Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta. The event drew large crowds eager to witness the iconic buffalo races that symbolize the spirit of the coastal region.
During his address, Captain Brijesh Chowta emphasized that Mangaluru Kambala is much more than a sports meet; it is a vibrant celebration of the culture, traditions, and history of Tulu Nadu. He stressed the importance of preserving local folk sports, noting that Kambala represents the profound bond between the land, its people, and their ancient customs.
Highlighting this year’s theme, ‘Nava Vidha – Nava Varshada Mangaluru Kambala,’ Captain Chowta remarked that the 2025 edition carries special significance. He observed that many young and successful entrepreneurs, motivated by their love for their homeland, have returned to Tulu Nadu to establish ventures and contribute significantly to regional development. The event saw the presence of various dignitaries from the social, cultural, and business sectors on the dais.
The festival is being held under the honorary presidency of Dr. K. Prakash Shetty, Chairman of the MRG Group, who has been a consistent supporter of the Mangaluru Kambala for the last eight years. His patronage has played a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the prestige of the event. Following the inaugural ceremonies, a grand stage program featuring cultural performances and honors was held on Saturday evening, with the final prize distribution scheduled for the morning of Sunday, December 28.
