Bangalore : It is a tough time for the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, to rescue himself from the political fate.
After the 16 MLAs withdrew support to Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa government last week, he was given a chance to prove the majority with the trust vote and he was successful in the day end.
But the decision of the governor has made to prove his ability once again and the CM has also agreed to prove for the second time this week his majority in the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday.
Further on Thursday’s crucial vote will be held and the numbers are in CM’s favour. Altogether the Karnataka Assembly’s total strength is 224 and deducting the 16 MLAs, it falls to 208. Yeddyurappa has to get 105 votes to prove he’s not in a minority. That’s exactly how many MLAs the BJP now has in the House.
After winning the majority trust vote on Monday, Bharadhwaj at a press conference on Tuesday, took an unprecedented move, described that vote as a farce and ordered another one. On this matter BJP said that Bhardwaj was clearly partisan, and demanded that he be recalled
Bhardwaj has undoubtedly u-turned from his stand on Monday, where he wrote to the Centre, recommending President’s Rule for Karnataka, a move, which did not please the Congress leadership in Delhi.
The Speaker said the 16 MLAs ditching Yeddyurappa stood disqualified under anti-defection laws. Five of those MLAs tried to force their way into the Vidhan Soudha for the trust vote.
He said that there was shouting inside the House, one MLA ripped open his shirt, another attacked a security guard. A voice vote apparently gave Yeddyurappa his new lease of life.
Bhardwaj said that there were no clear number of votes mentioned in his favour and it is against the motion of confidence moved by the Chief Minister.
Governor, who emphasized his disapproval, and wrote a letter to CM to demonstratively and constitutionally prove his majority on the floor of the House on Tuesday,.
