Mangaluru: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has launched an investigation into the alleged illegal entry of women and children into houses in Dakshina Kannada district by the police, who are targeting Hindu community elders, youth and women who have no police cases and are engaged in social service, at around midnight, collecting information about them, taking photos and harassing them. The commission has started an investigation after a complaint was filed by Dr. Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Mangaluru North Assembly constituency Dr. Bharat Shetty.
The commission’s technical team met the MLA on Tuesday and obtained the first-level information.
On this occasion, the MLA Bharath Shetty provided detailed information about the psychological trauma and harassment suffered by those doing social service work and their families.
The commission’s technical team will visit various taluks of the district and obtain information from the people who have been harassed. It is learnt that they will obtain information about the injustice done by the police department.
It has been announced that the commission’s investigation team will complete the investigation within the stipulated time and submit a report to the commission.
