Mangalore : The South Kanara District Chess Association and United Karnataka Chess Association organized 7-day 4th All India Open Fide Rated Chess Tournament at Subrahmanya Sabha on July 10, Saturday. About 300 participants from 20 states are participating in this event.
MLA Yogish Bhat and MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik inaugurated the event by playing chess on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Captain Karnik said that as the craze of cricket in television is increasing, people lose interest in chess.
Managing Director of Karnataka Bank Jayaram Hande, one of the sponsors of the event, assured that he would provide financial assistance for such activities in the future too.
Later the SKDCA website designed by Rajesh Karkera was launched by M. R. Vasudev, president of SKDCA on the occasion.
