Ullal : The citizens of Amblamogaru village, under the leadership of the Krushibhoomi Samrakshana Horata Samiti (Agricultural Land Protection Struggle Committee), staged a massive protest in front of the Ullal Tahsildar’s office on Thursday.
The demonstration was held to protest against the severe injustice done to poor tenant farmers whose land was allegedly purchased directly from the owners through brokers. The protest also targeted the encroachment of government land and the illegal blocking of a public road constructed by the Panchayat. Hundreds of citizens from Amblamogaru and Munnur Belma villages participated, venting their anger through slogans against the perceived irresponsible conduct of the State, District, and Taluk administrations.
Inaugurating the protest, Sunil Kumar Bajal, General Secretary of CITU D.K. District, alleged that the influential Nitte Institution was involved in the acquisition of hundreds of acres of land, arguing that this seizure was a severe blow to the farming sector. Bajal accused the institution of destroying the livelihoods of local people, encroaching upon government land, and violating Panchayat directives. He demanded a comprehensive investigation and issued a strong warning of severe consequences if the citizens’ grievances were ignored by the administration.
Senior labour leader Sukumara Thokkotu condemned the Nitte Group’s action of blocking the main village road, which was built with public tax money, calling it uncivilized. He accused the group of having a ‘cheap taste’ for engaging in dramatic social service after seizing people’s land through inducements. Thokkotu also pointedly criticized the BJP party for maintaining a “studied silence” on the issue, particularly concerning the blocking of the road used for the procession of the Panjandaya deity.
Farmer leader Krishnappa Salian joined the critique, noting that both the Congress and BJP, who frequently claim to support farmers, have remained silent when faced with the issues of the Amblamogaru villagers. This silence, he asserted, proved that both major political parties favour the rich and powerful. The demonstration, which included the participation of numerous leaders from various labour, farmer, youth, and women’s organizations, was led by the members of the Krushibhoomi Samrakshana Horata Samiti, including Ibrahim Amblamogaru and Sundara Poojari.
