Mangaluru: Canara Bank, a venerable institution in the banking sector, celebrated its 173rd Founder’s Day with significant community service initiatives led by its Mangaluru Circle Office. The celebration focused on giving back to the community through a Blood Donation Camp and a city-wide Walkathon.
Life-Saving Blood Donation Camp
The day’s events began with a Blood Donation Camp organized in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society. Dr. Shantharam Shetty, a renowned medical practitioner, inaugurated the camp as the Chief Guest.
Senior bank officials, including Sri Manjunath B Singai (Circle Head & General Manager), Smt. Latha Kurup (Deputy General Manager, Mangalore Region), and Deputy General Managers Sri Shailendra Nath and Smt. L R Vijayashree were present. The initiative saw an overwhelming response, with Canara Bank staff, customers, and well-wishers actively participating to donate blood and support life-saving efforts.
Promoting Financial Literacy with a Walkathon
In a separate event organized in association with the local police, the bank held a Walkathon aimed at promoting banking awareness and financial literacy among the public.
The walk commenced from the historic Monument where Canara Bank was originally founded, proceeding along three different routes that covered major parts of the city, before concluding at the Circle Office in Mangaluru. Participants utilized placards and banners to highlight the importance of understanding banking and financial concepts.
Commitment to Social Responsibility
Sri Manjunath B Singai, Circle Head of Canara Bank, flagged off the Walkathon, accompanied by a large number of bank employees and Ex-Staff. Participants carried banners and raised slogans, successfully spreading awareness about the significance of banking in shaping the economy.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Singai reaffirmed the bank’s long-standing commitment. “Canara Bank is proud to be a part of the country’s financial landscape for over 173 years,” he stated. “Our commitment extends beyond services; initiatives like the Blood Donation Camp and Walkathon clearly demonstrate our dedication to social responsibility and community service.
