Udupi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana (recitation by one lakh voices) event organized at the Udupi Sri Krishna Math on November 28. During his address, he greeted the gathering with ‘Namaskara’ and chanted ‘Jai Shri Krishna’ in Kannada. He instructed his SPG personnel to collect photographs from the crowd, asking people to write their addresses on the back so he could send a congratulatory letter in return, personally connecting with the devotees.
Nine Resolutions for the Nation
The Prime Minister emphasized that every citizen must fulfill their duties to achieve the goals of Amrit Kaal by 2047, urging everyone to take a ‘New Resolve’ for the nation’s present and future. He appealed for a commitment to nine specific resolutions. These pledges include: conserving water; launching a tree-planting campaign in the name of one’s mother; improving the life of at least one poor person; adopting ‘Vocal for Local’ and Swadeshi; practicing natural farming; embracing a healthy lifestyle that includes millets and reduced oil consumption; promoting yoga; supporting the preservation of manuscripts; and vowing to visit at least 25 sacred pilgrimage centres in the country. He concluded this appeal by resolving for a “developed Karnataka and a developed India.”
Remembering History and Celebrating Dharma
Modi recalled Udupi as the karmabhoomi that showcased the good governance models of the Jan Sangh and BJP, acknowledging leaders like V S Acharya. He congratulated Paryaya Puttige Math seer Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji for organizing the mega-event, calling it a campaign of Sanatana culture that inspires the new generation by connecting them with the Bhagavad Gita. He also mentioned his recent presence in Ayodhya for the installation of the dharma dhwaja atop the Ram Mandir, noting the happiness shared by countless devotees from Ayodhya to Udupi following the long struggle for the temple.
Message of the Gita and the Role of Governance
The Prime Minister described Udupi, established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya, as a sacred confluence of Vedic studies, devotion to Lord Krishna, and service. He highlighted the Bhagavad Gita’s message of universal welfare—Sarvajana Sukhaaya, Sarvajana Hitaaya—which aligns with the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He also stated that upholding Lord Krishna’s message requires ending the acts of evildoers. He referenced Operation Sindhoora, stating, “Our Sudarshana Chakra is aimed at those who act against the nation,” implying that the mission includes protecting dharma and eliminating evil.
Honours and Final Ceremony
Upon his arrival, Modi first had the divine darshan of Lord Krishna through the Kanaka Kindi and inaugurated the newly gold-plated Teertha Mantapa. He later participated in the core ceremony, where he recited the concluding verses of the 18th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Paryaya Puttige Math seer Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji bestowed the title ‘Bharata Bhagya Vidhata’ upon the Prime Minister and requested him to develop an ‘Udupi Corridor’ similar to the Kashi Corridor. Swamiji likened the PM’s presence to that of Arjuna, stating that the very meaning of the name Narendra is ‘embodiment of Arjuna’. The event concluded after the PM visited the historic Sarvajna Peetha, the Gita Mandira, where he unveiled a new idol of Lord Anantha Padmanabha, and received blessings from the Swamijis.
