Mangaluru : The 16th National Voters’ Day was celebrated with great significance at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in Mangaluru on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Organized jointly by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration and the District Legal Services Authority, the event aimed to emphasize the importance of electoral participation in a healthy democracy. The program was presided over by Raju K. (KAS), the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, who highlighted the administrative efforts in ensuring a transparent and inclusive electoral process.
Inaugurating the event, Basavaraj, the Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority, delivered a powerful message to the citizens. He remarked that “the ballot is more powerful than the bullet,” urging every eligible voter to exercise their fundamental right to vote as it is the most potent tool for social and political change. Following the inaugural address, Smt. Baibunnisa, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, administered the Voters’ Pledge to the gathering, reinforcing the commitment to vote ethically and without fail.
Adding to the discourse on electoral awareness, Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar S. Bhoomareddy spoke about the dedication of officials who work tirelessly to create awareness even in the most remote and challenging terrains. He encouraged the public not only to cast their own votes but also to act as ambassadors of democracy by educating others about the significance of the franchise. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including DDPI Shashidhar, DDPU Rajeshwari, and Tahsildar Ramesh Babu. To mark the occasion, Voter ID cards were distributed to newly eligible students who have recently completed 18 years of age. Furthermore, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were honored for their exemplary service during elections, and prizes were distributed to the winners of an essay competition held for students.
