Kundapuru : A sudden whirlwind, commonly known as a dust devil, appeared on Wednesday afternoon at the ground adjacent to the Primary Health Center in front of the Nada Village Panchayat in Kundapura. The unexpected weather phenomenon, which struck during the peak afternoon hours, caused a brief moment of panic and widespread curiosity among the local residents and passersby.
The powerful swirling wind lifted dust, dry leaves, and debris high into the air, carrying them across the field for a considerable distance. Auto-rickshaw drivers stationed nearby, Panchayat staff, and visitors at the health center stood in awe as the vortex spiraled across the ground. Many locals were seen capturing the rare and dramatic sight on their mobile phones, and the footage has since gained attention on social media.
While such occurrences are relatively rare in this coastal belt, similar whirlwinds have been reported previously in Karkala, Moodubidire, and Malpe areas. Although the incident lasted only for a few minutes and caused no significant damage, it remained the primary topic of discussion in the village throughout the day, highlighting the changing local environmental patterns.
