Udupi: A case has been registered against the manager of a nationalized bank’s Adi Udupi branch following allegations of indecent behavior toward a female customer. Based on a complaint filed by a woman named Jyothi, the Udupi Women’s Police Station officially recorded the case on February 19 under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The police have since initiated a formal investigation into the matter to verify the claims made by the victim.
The alleged incident took place on the evening of February 7, around 5:30 PM. According to the complainant, the manager had summoned her under the pretext of discussing a loan-related matter. She alleged that the manager later behaved in an indecent and inappropriate manner within the confines of a car. The woman, who hails from a middle-class background, stated in her complaint that the incident has caused her significant mental trauma and has severely tarnished her dignity while she was merely seeking professional banking assistance.
Expressing her faith in the judicial system, the complainant has appealed for justice and requested the authorities to ensure her safety. She specifically urged the police department to protect her from any potential pressure, threats, or attempts at character assassination that might arise following the filing of the case. This incident has sparked concerns regarding the safety of women customers when interacting with high-ranking officials in professional environments.
