Mangaluru : Mandd Sobhann, a premier Konkani cultural organization currently celebrating its 40th anniversary (1986–2026), is set to organize the First World Konkani Music Convention. This grand event will be held in Mangaluru from November 3 to November 15, 2026. To kickstart the preparations, the Muhurat (official commencement) and logo launch ceremony will take place on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar.
The event will be graced by distinguished guests, with Shri U.T. Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, serving as the chief guest. The official logo will be unveiled by Shri Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister for Health and Family Welfare and District In-charge Minister of Dakshina Kannada. Other dignitaries including Mangaluru South MLA Shri Vedavyas Kamath, MLC Shri Ivan D’Souza, and Goan artist Shri Michael Gracian will also be present as guests of honour.
A major highlight of this 12-day convention is the ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous group singing, lasting 12 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes. Over 6,000 singers from Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, and abroad are expected to participate. This record-breaking feat will feature around 5,000 Konkani songs performed by diverse communities, including Christian, GSB, Daldi, Kudmi, Kharvi, Siddi, and Syrian Orthodox groups, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the Konkani language.
Beyond the musical performances, the convention will host various seminars and discussions related to music. Senior artists who have made significant contributions to the field will be honored, and a “Kirti Mandir” exhibition showcasing musical instruments and cultural artifacts will be organized. Organizers, led by Ronald Castelino, informed the press that this massive undertaking is dedicated as a tribute to Eric Ozario for his monumental contribution to Konkani music.
