Mangaluru : The Diocese of Mangalore has issued a strong statement condemning the disparaging remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump against His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. The Diocese expressed that such derogatory comments directed at the Supreme Pontiff have deeply wounded the sentiments of the Catholic community, who revere the Holy Father as the successor of St. Peter and the spiritual head of the Church. The statement emphasized that an insult to the Pope is viewed as a direct disrespect to the faith and religious convictions of millions of believers worldwide.
While acknowledging that healthy debate on public issues is a fundamental aspect of democracy, the Diocese maintained that personal attacks on religious leaders are entirely unacceptable in civil discourse. Such rhetoric is seen as a threat to mutual respect and interfaith harmony, ultimately diminishing the dignity of public life. The Diocese called upon influential global leaders to maintain decorum and refrain from any speech that demeans the sacred beliefs of others.
Reaffirming its unwavering loyalty to Pope Leo XIV, the Diocese of Mangalore offered prayers for the Pope’s ongoing mission of peace, justice, and service to the marginalized. Furthermore, the faithful have been urged to respond to this situation with prayer, both for the Holy Father and for those in positions of political authority, with the hope that they may be guided by the principles of truth and mutual respect in their leadership.
