Mangaluru : In observance of Endometriosis Awareness Month, A J Hospital & Research Centre in Mangaluru has achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully performing two rare, minimally invasive fertility-enhancing surgeries. These procedures underscore the hospital’s commitment to addressing endometriosis and adenomyosis—conditions that often go underdiagnosed but cause debilitating pelvic pain and infertility in women of reproductive age. By utilizing advanced surgical techniques, the hospital aims to provide long-term relief while meticulously preserving the reproductive health of its patients.
The first case involved a 36-year-old woman who had suffered from intense menstrual cramps and chronic pelvic pain for a decade. Under the expertise of Dr. Arthika Shetty, Consultant Obstetrician, Gynecologist, and Minimally Invasive Surgeon, the patient was diagnosed with Stage IV endometriosis. The disease had deeply infiltrated the ileocolic region, necessitating a complex laparoscopic excision. The surgical team successfully removed the diseased tissue and the bowel nodule while keeping her reproductive organs intact, thereby maintaining her potential for future pregnancy.
In a second notable case, a 34-year-old woman suffering from Stage IV endometriosis and diffuse adenomyosis underwent a specialized procedure. The multidisciplinary team, led by Dr. Arthika Shetty and supported by experts in Anesthesiology, Radiology, and Intestinal Surgery, performed a laparoscopic excision followed by microwave ablation for the adenomyosis. This modern approach is designed to significantly reduce pain and improve quality of life without the risk of uterine rupture in future pregnancies. Dr. Shetty emphasized that timely diagnosis and specialized excision surgery remain the gold standard for treating these complex gynecological conditions effectively.
