Bantwal : In a tragic turn of events, a tipper lorry driver lost his life on Thursday, June 18, after his stationary vehicle suddenly rolled backward and ran over him. The devastating accident took place at Peruvadi Gudda in Padekallu, located within Karopady village of Bantwal taluk. The deceased driver has been identified as Mahesh, a resident of Bandaru in Beltangady taluk.
The site at Peruvadi Saravu Gudda has been a regular hub for heavy commercial vehicles transporting soil across state borders. At approximately 10:00 AM, Mahesh had driven his tipper lorry to the location to participate in the ongoing operations for the removal of excess soil.
According to eye-witness accounts and initial reports, the vehicle developed a sudden technical snag, compelling Mahesh to pull over. In an attempt to fix the underlying mechanical issue, he crawled underneath the chassis of the truck. Tragically, while he was occupied with the repairs, the heavy vehicle unexpectedly lost its footing and began rolling backward. Unable to escape the sudden movement, Mahesh was caught beneath the front wheel and suffered fatal injuries, dying on the spot.
Following the horrific incident, local laborers alongside the emergency response team from the Kanyana Sadguru Ambulance rushed to the scene to launch an immediate rescue operation. They successfully pulled the driver’s body out from underneath the heavy machinery and transported it to the government hospital in Vittal. Personnel from the Vittal police station subsequently visited the accident site to inspect the vehicle and gather necessary information regarding the mishap.
