Mangaluru: Member of Parliament Brijesh Chowta has demanded the registration of an FIR against Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for leading a protest outside the Election Commission office. Addressing a press conference at the Dakshina Kannada BJP office on Tuesday, MP Chowta clarified that Summary Revision (SIR) is a routine electoral exercise where voter lists are updated by deleting the names of deceased or relocated individuals. He accused the Congress party of intentionally creating unnecessary confusion among the public during this ongoing process.
Elaborating on the procedural aspects, MP Chowta highlighted that Form No. 7 provides a legitimate provision for raising objections to voter entries. He emphasized that filing an objection through Form 7 does not lead to the immediate deletion of a voter’s name, as individuals are always given an opportunity to verify and prove their voter status. Consequently, he stated that demanding criminal cases or FIRs against those who submit objections using Form 7 is completely unjustified.
Addressing infrastructure concerns in the district, MP Chowta shared that discussions have been held with the Union Minister regarding the removal of the Brahmarakootlu Toll Gate. He assured that the Brahmarakootlu toll plaza will be decommissioned once the new toll gate becomes operational at Punjalkatte in the next phase of the project.
Several BJP leaders and office bearers were present at the press conference, including Rajagopala Rai, Vasantha Poojary, Sujith Madoor, Sanjaya Prabhu, Poornima, Pooja Pai, and Jeevan Kumar.
