Ahmedabad: Mumbai-born Clive Kunder was one of the 242 passengers on board the Air India plane that crashed due to a technical fault moments after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Clive Kunder had trained at Paris Air Inc. Clive had 1,100 hours of flying experience. He was assisting line training captain Sumit Sabharwal, who had over 8,200 flight hours.
The Boeing 787 took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the afternoon. Within three to four minutes of the plane taking off, the pilot had given his last message to ATC, saying ‘May Day.. May Day..’ A Mayday is an emergency call made when an aircraft is in danger and needs urgent assistance. When ATC called back, there was no response. It is said that the aircraft crashed moments after the pilot gave the Mayday message.
