Padmaraj R. Poojary Takes Charge as Dakshina Kannada District Congress President, Vows to Rebuild Party from Grassroots

Mangaluru : Padmaraj R. Poojary officially assumed charge as the new President of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee during a grand ceremony held on Thursday at the Congress Bhavana in Mallikatte, succeeding outgoing president Harish Kumar. Emphasizing that Congress represents a movement rooted in the aspirations of millions, Padmaraj stated his commitment to reorganizing the party from the booth level, empowering ground-level workers, and restoring Congress’s past glory in the district under the guidance of senior leaders.

Outlining his immediate roadmap, Padmaraj announced plans to personally visit every booth across all assembly constituencies in the district over the next eight days to directly engage with booth presidents and local workers. To unify workers from the grassroots to the district level, a massive party convention will be organized in the first week of November. He highlighted that the state cabinet’s historic decision to grant Tulu language second official language status, alongside allocating ₹32,000 crore for coastal development, stands as a major achievement of the Congress government that will be carried to every household, welcoming leaders and members returning to Congress from other parties.

Speaking on the occasion, outgoing president Harish Kumar was felicitated by the district committee and urged party members to display complete unity to win all eight assembly seats in the coming elections, emphasizing that victory requires collective responsibility. KPCC Working President and MLC Manjunath Bhandari, who handed over the party flag, underscored that party positions should not remain mere “visiting cards” and revealed that active workers would be selected through interviews conducted by a committee led by Dr. G. Parameshwara. With nearly 4,000 local body seats pending elections by year-end, Bhandari noted that the next six months are crucial for organizational victory across local bodies, including the Mangaluru City Corporation. The event witnessed blessings from Fr. Gomes, guidance from senior leader B. Janardhana Poojary, and the presence of former ministers, MPs, MLAs, KPCC office-bearers, and party workers.
