BANTWAL: The historical and sacred shrine of Panolibailu Kallurti Kshetra in Bantwal held the ‘Hosa Akki Agelu Seve’ (New Rice Offering Service) on the afternoon of Friday, October 17.
This ‘Hosa Akki Agelu Seve’ is traditionally performed at the temple every year on the day of Kaveri Sankramana (the start of the Kaveri solar month).
Devotees from the local area and surrounding regions contribute various kinds of vegetables for this ‘Puddar Agelu Seve’. A special feature of this day’s service is the inclusion and distribution of these vegetables.
Similar to the ‘Agelu Seve’ performed on other days, the offering to the deity is made on this Kaveri Sankramana day. New rice is used to prepare the ‘Agelu’ (offering), and the vegetables donated by the devotees are mixed and served along with it.
Special Rule: If Kaveri Sankramana falls on a Monday or a Saturday, the ‘Agelu Seve’ is not performed for the deity on that day. Instead, the ‘Hosa Akki Agelu’ is offered on the subsequent day.
The ‘Agelu Seve’ is regularly held at the Panolibailu shrine on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. The Sankramana is considered special when it falls on a weekday that is not one of the regular ‘Agelu’ days.
Last year, Kaveri Sankramana fell on a Thursday. Devotees have offered a total of 1480 ‘Agelu Sevas’ for this year’s Kaveri Sankramana ‘Puddar Seve’.
The event was attended by the temple’s first priest Vasu Moolya, second priest Narayana Moolya, third priest Monappa Moolya, Executive Officer Divakar Muguliya, Food Shirastedar Shivaprasad, Food Inspector Prashanth Shetty, taluk staff Banuprakash, the deity’s attendants (Chakariyavaru) including Ramesh Kulal Panolibailu and Jayaram Shetty Nagriguthu from Bhandarada Mane, along with other staff and devotees from the region and outside.
