Bantwal Town Police have arrested a local resident for the illegal possession of MDMA a synthetic drug. The accused, identified as Mohammad Imtiyaz (40) from Bantwal taluk, was apprehended on October 15 following a raid conducted near the Panemangaluru cemetery road.
The arrest was made after the police station’s sub-inspector and his team received credible information regarding suspicious activity in the area. Upon reaching the spot, the team observed an autorickshaw (bearing registration number KA-19-D-1806) parked near the cemetery. Imtiyaz was questioned while seated in the driver’s seat and reportedly confessed to being in possession of the substance and having arrived at the location to consume it.
During the subsequent inspection, the police team seized 0.760 grams (760 milligrams) of MDMA from the accused. The seized synthetic drug is valued at approximately Rs 1,000. Police also noted that Imtiyaz was already an accused in a previous case (Crime No. 50/2025) registered at the Bantwal town police station.
A formal case has been registered against Mohammad Imtiyaz under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, specifically Sections 8(c) and 22(b). Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the court, which ordered him to be remanded to judicial custody.
