Mangaluru : Bantwal Police have registered cases against a total of 15 persons in connection with the brutal murder of pick-up vehicle driver and secretary of the Kolathamajalu Jumma Masjid, Abdul Rahiman (32) when he was unloading sand at Ira kody in Kuriyala village.
Police said, Abdul Rahman and Qalandar Shafi were unloading sand from a pick-up vehicle near the house of Rajiv in Kuriyal village when they were suddenly attacked.
The assailants, including Deepak and Sumit, who were reportedly acquaintances of both victims, When Qalandar Shafi tried to intervene, he too was attacked and sustained serious injuries to his chest, back, and hands.
It is said they dragged Abdul Rahman out of the driver’s seat and stabbed him with swords, knives, and iron rods.
The assailants fled the scene with the weapons as bystanders began to shout. The injured Qalandar Shafi and Abdul Rahman were rushed to the hospital by locals. Unfortunately, Abdul Rahiman succumbed to his injuries.
Muhammad Nisar, who admitted Qalandar Shafi to the hospital, filed a complaint with the police stating that the attack was either communal or driven by another motive, and that both Deepak and Sumit were known to the victims.
Based on statements and evidence, Bantwal police have booked the accused under sections 103, 109, 118(1), 118(2), 190, 191(1), 191(2), and 191(3) of the Indian Penal Code, 2023.
To expedite the investigation, five police teams have been formed under the direction of DySP Vijay to trace and arrest all the accused involved in this brutal attack.
