Belthangady : In a significant legal turn of events regarding the Dharmasthala Sowjanya case, Jayanth T., an activist fighting for justice for Sowjanya, has finally received a substantial portion of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report. The development occurred on Friday at the Belthangady court, where the SIT had previously submitted a massive 3,923-page investigation report. Of this extensive document, the court has provided Jayanth with approximately 1,100 pages, marking a critical milestone for the activists who have been pursuing the case details through legal channels.
The SIT had originally submitted its findings to the court on November 20, notably requesting permission to initiate action against six individuals, including prominent activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi. At that time, the investigation team had specifically appealed to the court to keep the contents of the report confidential and not to disclose it to the public. Following this, Jayanth T. had moved an application seeking a copy of the report, which was initially rejected by the court in light of the SIT’s request for secrecy.
The deadlock was broken after senior advocate Dore Raju traveled from Bengaluru to Belthangady to represent Jayanth. After hearing the arguments presented by the legal team, the court eventually consented to share parts of the report. On Friday, the court handed over the specific sections, which, according to available information, primarily consist of statements recorded by Jayanth and others. However, it is reported that the court has withheld highly sensitive portions, including the statement made by Chinnayya and other pivotal investigative findings contained within the broader SIT report.
