UdupI : Former Minister and Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar has issued a stern warning against holding a second Bhoomi Puja for the Udupi Kambala in Badagubettu village, stating that the BJP will not allow such an event to take place. Speaking at a press conference in the Udupi Press Club, Kumar alleged that the Congress leadership is using the traditional buffalo race as a pretext to obstruct the work of the local MLA and create hurdles through administrative interference. He accused former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake of engaging in “petty politics” by pressuring officials to halt development projects in the Kaup constituency, warning that the BJP would resort to showing black flags to the District In-charge Minister if this confrontational approach continues.
Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the state government had already sanctioned 6.30 acres of land to the Department of Youth Empowerment after thorough inspections by the AC and DC six months ago. He noted that a non-partisan Kambala committee had been formed with the approval of the District In-charge Minister and that the official invitations even included photos of Congress leaders. Shetty criticized the sudden attempts to stall the event as a “malicious political conspiracy” by Sorake, which he claims demonstrates the ruling government’s step-motherly treatment and lack of funds for the coastal region. Despite the political friction, the leaders maintained that the Kambala committee would proceed with the event regardless of government funding, but they reiterated that any attempt to perform a second ‘Bhoomi Puja’ would be met with intense protests.
