Kasaragod: A tragic incident has come to light near Kumbla, where a 32-year-old Booth Level Officer (BLO) and school teacher allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a river at Mogral. The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Savad, a resident of Mogral, who was serving as a teacher at the Cherkala Government Higher Secondary School. The incident was discovered after Savad went missing from his home on Saturday morning, leading his anxious family members to launch a frantic search for him.
During the search, Savad’s motorcycle was found abandoned on the Mogral bridge, raising immediate suspicions. Following a joint effort by family members and local residents, Savad was located in the river in a semi-conscious state. Although he was rushed to the Kasaragod General Hospital immediately, medical professionals declared him brought dead. The body was later handed over to the relatives following a post-mortem examination. While the family has alleged that immense work pressure might have driven him to take this extreme step, the police have initiated a preliminary investigation.
Kasaragod District Collector Arjun Pandian stated that a suicide note was recovered during the initial police probe, which suggests that personal reasons may have led to the act. However, taking the sensitivity of the matter into account, the District Collector has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the death. He further assured that the bereaved family would be provided with all eligible government benefits and support.
