Udupi : A brand-new scooter, purchased only a month ago, was completely reduced to ashes after it caught fire while parked in the courtyard of a house at Palame near Panjimaru, Shirva, on Tuesday. The owner, a resident of Palame, had recently bought the vehicle from Mangaluru. Recounting the ordeal, the owner stated that the scooter was parked in the afternoon when fire suddenly broke out and engulfed the entire vehicle within seconds, leaving no time for intervention.
Upon receiving the information, the Shirva police visited the spot to conduct a preliminary inspection of the charred remains. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Authorities are currently investigating whether the fire was caused by a technical defect in the new vehicle or due to other external factors.
This incident has heightened anxiety among local residents as it marks the second vehicle fire in the Shirva vicinity within a single week. Earlier, on February 9, a Maruti Dzire car traveling from Mangaluru to Shirva was similarly destroyed by fire in the middle of the road. Police officials have urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant and ensure regular maintenance to prevent such technical mishaps.
