Putturu : Dakshina Kannada police have registered a case against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and the event organizers. The charges stem from an inflammatory speech Mr. Bhat allegedly delivered during a Deepotsava programme held at Uppalige in Puttur taluk on October 20.
The content of the speech, which gained widespread attention after being viewed on the ‘Kahale News’ channel on YouTube, showed Mr. Bhat explicitly urging Hindu women to give birth to more children, claiming that Muslim women were delivering more than two children. The police action was initiated following a complaint lodged by one Eshwari Padmunja, who asserted that the speech was designed to create hate and enmity between different religious groups.
On October 25, the Puttur Rural police registered the First Information Report (FIR). The case invokes several sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically listing Sections 79, 196, 299, 302, and 3(5). Furthermore, the Special Action Force personnel had flagged the video on the same day it was registered and formally instructed the district police to take necessary action against the parties involved.
Minister Priyank Kharge Reacts to Bhat’s Stance on RSS March
Meanwhile, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge separately launched a strong attack on Mr. Bhat. The Minister’s criticism was in response to the RSS leader’s assertive posture regarding the RSS’s proposed route march (path sanchalan) scheduled for November 2 in Chittapur, which falls under Mr. Kharge’s assembly constituency.
Minister Kharge emphasized the sanctity of the legal framework, stating clearly that no individual is above the law or the Constitution of India. He challenged Mr. Bhat’s authority, asking, “Who is he? Is he above the law or the Constitution? We have to adhere to the law.” The Minister added a stern warning that the government would not remain silent, stating, “Action as per the law will be taken if he speaks in public like the way things are said in shakhas.”
In continuing his critique of the assertive statements regarding the Chittapur route march, Mr. Kharge reiterated that it is imperative to follow legal procedure “instead of making inflammatory statements.” He pointed out that 11 organizations, not just the RSS, have sought permission to take out a procession in Chittapur. Kharge clarified that he has not used his influence on the matter and that officials will hold a meeting to review the applications. The final decision will be based on the official report submitted to the court, which will decide on granting permission.
