Mangaluru : Unidentified thieves have stolen the replica of the saxophone erected in memory of world-renowned saxophonist Padma Shri Kadri Gopalnath at Mallikatte Park in the city. Built at an estimated cost of ₹75 lakh a few years ago, the upgraded park featured a dedicated pedestal where the iconic instrument’s replica was showcased inside a glass casing, serving as a prominent landmark and attraction for locals and visitors alike. The theft of this cherished monument has sparked widespread outrage among the public.
Due to a shortage of funds and poor maintenance in recent years, the park had fallen into a state of neglect. Taking advantage of the situation, miscreants allegedly made off with the replica about a week ago. Upon learning of the incident, local corporator Kadri Manohar Shetty alerted the Kadri police, who have registered a case and initiated a search operation to track down the culprits.
